Modafinil
Modafinil (also known as Provigil or Modiodal ) is a drug prescribed for people suffering from narcolepsy . The drug is not widely used, it is only prescribed in sleep / wake disorders specialist neurologists and usually only when the more famous agent methylphenidate does not work. The drug was developed by the French company Laboratoire Louis Lafon (later Cephalon France) and is marketed in the Netherlands under the brand name Modiodal .
- Modafinil improves attention and prevents sleep attacks.
- With narcolepsy (sleeping sickness).
- Works within 3 hours. Once a day: take in the morning, for example with your breakfast. At 2 times a day: in the morning and around noon, for example at lunch.
Take the last tablet no later than 2 pm. Otherwise, it will be difficult to fall asleep at night. - May cause gastrointestinal complaints such as stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation. In case of stomach complaints, take with some food.
- You may have a headache for the first few days. Other side effects include nervousness, dizziness, confusion and blurred vision and dry mouth.
- Do not drive as long as you are dizzy, nervous, confused, or have blurred vision. Watch out with alcohol. This can impair your judgment.
- Interactions with other medications, such as the pill. Consult your pharmacist.
Dosage
Modafinil only comes in tablet form. The daily dose is 200 mg modafinil. The tablets should not be taken after 2 p.m. as this may cause problems sleeping.
